Pheasant in Cornfield by Robert Bateman
Pheasant in Cornfield by Robert Bateman
Published in 1983
"I particularly enjoy the rich tapestry of colors and shapes displayed in the feathers. The human imagination could not devise such a surprising and pleasing combination of visual possibilities. In much of its range, the pheasant is sustained throughout the difficult winter period my remnants of crops, especially corn, left on agricultural land. In this picture I was interested not only in the glorious feathers of the pheasant, but the textures of the corn and the way they echo the shape of the bird. I also wanted to capture the texture of the old snow with human footprints and the glow of winter afternnon light." - R. Bateman
