Jones, George

Vivid and captivating, George H. Jones' large-scale paintings are matched only by his Texas-sized personality.  The Lakewood native began his art career at a very young age and sold his first painting at the age of ten. A University of Texas graduate, he studied advertising in college and worked in a variety of fields until he dropped everything -- despite his parents' wishes that he pursue a "practical" career -- to become a full-time artist.  His paintings represent his Texas heritage and his love of animals. Painting primarily in oils, Jones often uses a palette knife to create a "chunky", 3-D texture that reaches out from the canvas.  "Bold", "vibrant" and "whimsical" are just a few words that describe Jones’ wet-on-wet abstract works. You see it in layer upon layer of generous paint applied in colors and hues that create mystery and leave much to the imagination of the viewer.  Jones' work proudly hangs in the private collections of former Vice President Dan Quayle (as well several of his advisors), professional athletes, and in galleries across North America.
