The Signal by western artist Howard Terpning
The Signal by western artist Howard Terpning.
On a snow-covered hill, in a bitter cold wind, a Blackfeet warrior waves his buffalo robe as a signal to his companions. Such a robe or a blanket would be the largest item he would be likely to carry with him on the trail and therefore the most easily seen at a distance. His horse, protected by a heavy coat of winter hair, would not be likely to win a modern show, but he was wiry and tough and served the Plains Indian well in the days when the native American was still free to roam. (The art of Howard Terpning - Elmer Kelton).
Print released 1985.
