"Strong, contrasting colors are the high cards to play in a painting. I use them very carefully and deliberately for the strongest effect. I eventually chose a kingfisher for this painting. They are not usually thought of as winter birds, but can often be seen in the snow, providing there is some open running water where they can fish." - R. Bateman
