Ancient Empire, Mesa Verde - Anasazi ruins by Robert Peters

Ancient Empire, Mesa Verde by Robert Peters.

In the Southwest, one of the most famous landmarks is the Mesa Verde cave dwellings. Peters has painted "Ancient Empire, Mesa Verde." This area was first settled about AD 550; the people were known as the Anasazi, meaning "ancient" in Navajo. The people made baskets and pottery, and also farmed the land. They lived clustered in small villages and made homes in cliff recesses. Peters has captured the mystery that is Mesa Verde.
