Rubie Leaves Lady Luck by cowgirl artist Donna Howell-Sickles

Rubie Leaves Lady Luck by cowgirl artist Donna Howell-Sickles.

The bucking bronco of early rodeo becomes the uncontrollable element of life, represented by its red upturned hooves.  The title, however, tells us that if Rubie has not left by choice she has at least made the choice to make the ride.  Even as she falls, symbols of the feminine guide Rubie on her way.  Her hat becomes the crescent moon of fruitful change and, in her wake, the stars illuminate the sky.  The shape and color of her boots tell us, too, that Rubie is sure-footed and will find her way.
