Army Regulations by Howard Terpning

Army Regulations by Howard Terpning.

"Indian scouts were an invaluable asset for the army in a hostile frontier environment. These were the ones who knew the lay of the land and the ways of the other warriors who had been their enemies almost forever. The commingling of cultures was picturesque as the scouts blended regulation army issue with their own traditional tribal dress. But they were still themselves in their hearts. They would fight with the white troopers, but not for them, against a common enemy. These are Shoshone scouts from Fort Hall, or the Wind River reservation, eager for the chance to strike at their old enemy, the Blackfoot." (Spirit of the Plains People - Don Hedgpeth).
